What makes Shield FLUOROPOLYMERS unique?
Shield coatings last over twenty to thirty years with continuous exposure with no deterioration or land
limited oss of gloss.
What is different about Shield coatings from others in the similar family of chemicals?
Shield FLUOROPOLYMERS are a patented formulation making them a one of a kind product.
Why do Shield coatings perform so well?
The main chain structure is similar to PVDF. Having a complete alternating sequence of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon units. The chemically stable fluoroolefin unit protects the unstable hydrocarbon from sunlight.
Do Shield polymers require cross linking?
Yes. Solvent base require cross linking, water base coating is optional.
What is the shelf life of Shield Polymers?
Water based 6-12 months (keep cool below 72F ) solvent based coatings 2 years.
How is Shield coating applied?
Air, Airless, Brush, Roll, Dip, electro-statically, or bake.
Are Shield coatings hard to apply?
We recommend coatings be professionally applied.
What is the pot life when using the two (2) part coating?
3 - 4 hours for water based, 2 to 4 hours for solvent base.
Are Shield coatings affected by extremes in temperature?
Not affected by temperature after curing.
What is the principal coating group?
SUPERIOR SHIELD FLUOROPOLYMER high solids, long lasting.
What is the difference from other coatings?
FLUOROPOLYMERS provide the ultimate in durability, 20-30 year life.
What temperature should the substrate be when the coating is applied?
Temperature, < 50 to 90 F
How long does it take Shield Coatings to dry and cure?
Dry to tack is 1-3 hours, Traffic 10 -16 hours. Total cure 5-7 days normal temperatures. Can be accelerated with the use of heat & air.
Can Shield Coatings be re-coated?
Yes, our Fluoropolymer coatings can be re-coated any time after curing.
Can the Shield coatings be repaired if damaged?
Yes, sand edges, products blend and level.
Should the applicator wear protective clothing and a mask ?
As with all coating applications skin & respiratory protection is recommended.
What is the preferred environment for applying the coatings?
Relative humidity high 90% max.
How does high humidity most affect the quality of the finish?
Coatings struggle to flash and level and sometimes blush in high humidity.
What is the coverage rate for the coatings?
Coverage rates vary according to porosity. Up to500- 650 sq ft per gal. One coat (Spraying).
How many coats should be applied?
Water based: 1 or 2 coat. Solvent Based 2 coats. Porous materials require more.
What is the solid content of Shield Coat products?
FLUOROPOLYMER. 60 % Solids.
What is the film thickness of the coating?
2-4 mil Wet film thickness. 1 -2 mil Dry film thickness.
What type of shine do Shield Coatings have after fully cured?
A high gloss 90%
@60º.
How do you clean surfaces after the application of Shield Coatings?
After the products are dry, normal cleaning is required as dirt does not adhere well to surface &
can be easily removed.
Are colors available for Super shield Fluoropolymers?
YES. Colors can be post added.
Will Super Shield crack chip or turn yellow?
NO. Fluoropolymers do not crack, chip or turn yellow. Last for 20-30 years.
Will Super Shield Chalk?
NO. Super Shield will last for years with no chalking. Testing has been done in Arizona, Okinawa and Hawaii.
What surfaces can Super Shield be used on?
Just about any surface. Tile, Wood, Plastic, Fiberglass, Most metals, Aluminum, Steel and Galvanize,
concrete.
Is super Shield economical to use?
Yes. When you figure the square foot per gallon and the replacement cost of lower quality products that have a short life, you will save plenty of money.
How long does it take to get Super Shield Shipped?
Two to seven days. Shipping is done by standard carriers or the
carrier of your choice.
How do coatings compare with normal paints?
Coatings are applied the same as paint. That is the only similarity. FLUOROPOLYMERS go on much thinner (1 Mil DFT), Last much longer, Do not chip, yellow or fade and are recoatable. Are easy to apply. (Brush, Spray, Roll ,Dip or Bake).
